The challenges to web2 in Africa are legion but I am very optimistic that it would be an even easier battle than against the military days of a couple of decades ago.
One interesting observation is that the most users of web2 are those "without content" - the teenagers who relish being heard online. This group presents a ray of hope that in the next couple of years, 'web2ing' would be as common as the mobile phone.

The key determinant however is the affordability and availability of Internet. If Africans who earn far less than other parts of the world have to pay far more than other parts of the world we can be sure, it may take longer than anticipated to get people to easily get crazy about web2

Hi,

"(Frontline sms, twitter, etc.)
Can you give some examples for interweb2 techniques used in Africa?"

What does interweb2 mean?

Opera Mini has a large piece of it's userbase from Africa, if not most. Opera Mini is a link between the phone and the normal web. As well as google.com which reformats pages to your phone.

Or you can use MXit and twitter together even.
See,
http://mxit.defza.com/2007/mobile-note-taking-using-gtalkgmail-and-mxit-or-twitter/
for some ideas.

I agree with the commenter, "looks promising", in 2002 yes.
It's reality now (2007).

Cheers,

Thanks for your feedback. Yes I agree with you that "very promising" is underestimating the far reaching effect mobile phones have in Africa and elsewhere. However I do not see so many linkages between mobile phones and the web yet. (Frontline sms, twitter, etc.)
Can you give some examples for interweb2 techniques used in Africa?

Misses the point that Africa is already using interweb 2 techniques on mobile phones.

You say the mobile phone is "very promising." The truth is it is already a powerful tool being used everywhere.
